A “light” remodel goes a long way! An inexpensive way to freshen a home or office is by updating the lighting, which is often times, ignored. With new fixtures, fabrics and wallcoverings reveal true colors, corners brighten and lighting becomes an added accessory instead of just a necessity in the space.
Lighting in an entryway can be the difference between a warm welcome and a cold shoulder. The overhead fixture should make a good first impression and speak to the décor of the space. Just like all spaces, we must include accent lighting and task lighting in an entry. Place task or accent lamps on an entry table — no more fumbling in the dark for keys, wallet or phone!

Accent lighting over art and a pair of sconces on either side of the doorway, will create a warm glow on faces and furniture. Balance and adaptability are the key to a well lit living space. This means that permanent overhead fixtures such as chandeliers and can lights should always be on a dimmer switch. This helps to set the mood of the moment and helps with energy efficiency.

Energy efficiency is the name of the game these days and the lighting manufacturers continue to improve on our choices. While Light Emitting Diodes, or LEDs, are still a small portion of the home lighting market, they are poised to become an essential component in most homes. The most common energy efficient bulbs are the Compact Fluorescents (CFL), which have greatly improved in color recently and give off a warm white glow instead of the yellow glow of the past.
So let's brighten up our spaces with a fresh look at the lighting we use. The lighting manufacturers have given us a wonderful variety of choices no matter what the budget or the style may dictate.
